Uncle Jack presents unique plants ideal for gifts or home enjoyment.

Lucky Bamboo Arrangements

Lucky Bamboo

Lucky bamboo is one of the plants recommended by Feng Shui masters to improve Feng Shui and create a space where you feel safe and more energized. Feng Shui is the ancient practice of bringing the natural elements of water, fire, earth, wood and metal into balance in our surroundings. This is believed to produce greater harmony and a more positive life experience.

Lucky Bamboo is widely used as a gift to celebrate Chinese New Year, Business grand opening, the purchase of a new home, school Graduation, the center piece of a wedding or simply for pure good luck. It's spiritual meanings are: "Advancement" which symbolizes climbing up a ladder for a career. "Prosperity" which symbolizes success in business ventures. "Health" which symbolizes harmony and peaceful life. "Religious" which symbolizes gracious, honorable and virtuous. "Relationship" which symbolizes energizing your love life.

Because lucky bamboo is able to thrive in many areas of the home or workplace where other plants would not, it is valued as a means to enhance the positive flow of energy or "chi" in these areas.

The bamboo stalk is valued as a perfect symbol of the wood element. A red ribbon tied around the stalks symbolized the element of fire. The addition of a little fire assists enhancing or "igniting" the positive result that is desired.

(Though originating in Asia I obtain these from a grower in Virginia.)

A few simple rules, on care of Lucky Bamboo:

First avoid too much sunlight. Lucky bamboo grows naturally under the canopy of wet tropical rain forests. It needs very little sunlight to thrive. In general, the more indirect, the better. If you see burning or browning on the tips of the leaves, the location may receive too much sunlight. Lucky Bamboo must be kept moist all the time. It prefers a few inches of fresh, or filtered water. It will also thrive in a soil mixture as long as this soil holds a lot of water. Since neither water nor soil contains the vitamins, minerals and hormones that are found in Lucky Bamboo's natural growing environment, supplementation is recommended.

What causes leaves or stalks to turn yellow?
After considering the possibility of too much light, the next element to consider is the source of the water you are using. If you live in a city where fluoride is added to the water, or has high chlorine or salt content, or a combination of these factors will cause this problem. Yellowing is first seen at the tips of the leaves and then spreads throughout the whole stalk until it dies. It is vital to provide pure, clean water, either by adding an effective filtering system to your tap, or by purchasing water for this purpose. If you suspect this is your problem, and you improve the quality of your water, allow time for healthy, new foliage to form before concluding that something else must be wrong.

Can lucky bamboo be planted outdoors?
No, unless you live in a tropical rain forest. This plant does not respond well to temperatures below 16c, and must be kept very moist at all times.

Is lucky bamboo safe for children and pets?
It is completely non-toxic and safe.

Can propagation be done from original stalks?
To grow new stalks from your original ones, make a clean cut through the stalk, seal the top end with some wax. Place the cutting in fresh, clean water with some rooting hormone (use directions on rooting hormone package). Refresh this mixture at least once a week.

What type of ailments affect lucky bamboo?
Lucky bamboo is susceptible to many of the same ailments as conventional houseplants. Treatment is easily achieved by using products available at your local home and garden center. We recommend treating pests with organic or environmentally safe products like "Safer" as they are safer for humans, animals and the environment.

Cape May Diamond Gem Stones

Luck of the Kechemeche Indians, a component part of the Lenni Lenape Council, blood affiliates of the Algonquin Nation, a peace loving tribe of aborigines. Good fortune of a Chinese culture more than 4000 years old, recommended by Feng Shui masters.

Please note these stones have not been sorted in any manner
and any semiprecious stones have not been removed.

The stones come in a variety of color, the most sought after of course are the clear stones.  It is not unusual to find Amber and Jade,
with an occasional shark tooth in this area.

At Cape May Point was the tribal headquarters of the Kechemeche Indians, a component part of the Lenni Lenape Council.  These Indian were blood affiliates of the Algonquin Nation, a peace loving tribe of aborigines.

The Kechemeche were the first to find the beautiful translucent stones now known as “Cape May Diamonds.”  The gems were found in limited areas on the beach along Delaware Bay.  These gems were held in high esteem by the Indians, who attached mystical powers and a sacred trust to their possession.  The Kechemeche believed these curious stones possessed supernatural powers, influencing the success, well-being and good fortune of the possessor. The bonds of friendship and lasting good will were often sealed with the gift or exchange of these beautiful sacred gems.  This was especially true of those gems which were larger and free of any flaws.  One of the largest “Cape May Diamonds” was presented to an early settler, Christopher Leaming, by King Nummy, last chief of the Lenni-Lenape.  King Nummy received the gem from the Kechemeche as a tribute to him and as proof of their faithfulness and loyalty. Mr. Leaming had the stone sent back to the old country.  In Amsterdam, Holland, a lapidary expertly cut and polished it into a most beautiful gem.

These beautiful gems we know as “Cape May Diamonds” are pure quartz crystals, thrown by tides to appear as pebbles on the beach.  Quartz is the most common of minerals coming in a variety of colors. The source of the “Cape May Diamonds” is a the upper reaches of the Delaware River, some two hundred miles upstream, where for thousands of years the swift waters have eroded away pockets and veins of quartz crystal.  Then begins the long journey to the ocean taking thousand of years to complete.  Upon reaching the mouth of the Delaware Bay, some 17 miles across, causing a strong flow on both the outgoing and incoming tide.  This strong flow comes against the sides of the concrete ship “Atlantus”, which swirls the quartz pebbles ashore, along with other material, including fossil sharks’ teeth and Indian arrowheads.  The larger stones come ashore mostly in the winter months when the surf is considerably stronger, particularly during the storms.

The “Cape May Diamond” comes in a variety of sizes.  Finds as large as eggs have been reported.  On one occasion, a gem weighing over one pound was found. When polished or cut and faceted, these gems have the appearance of a genuine diamond.  When finished, Cape May Diamonds” can be mounted in gold, silver or platinum, creating beautiful jewelry items.

The “Cape May Diamonds”, are found in abundance on Sunset Beach in historic Cape May Point.  From early Spring until late Fall, visitors come by the thousands to collect “Cape May Diamonds”, fossils and Indian artifacts in the shadow of the concrete ship “Atlantis”.
